Subtracting Feet and Inches
Subtract Feet and Inches: Learn
How to subtract feet and inches:
If the subtracted number of inches is greater than the original number of inches,
you can "borrow" 12 inches from the original number of feet:
- Reduce the original number of feet by 1
- Increase the original number of inches by 12
- Subtract the inches.
- Subtract the feet.
Example: Subtract 3 feet 10 inches from 6 feet 8 inches:
Since 10 is greater than 8, we must "borrow" some inches:
- 6 - 1 = 5 feet
- 8 + 12 = 20 inches
- 20 - 10 = 10 inches
- 5 - 3 = 2 feet
- Final answer: 2 feet 10 inches
