Surface Area: Learn

Surface Area is the combined area of all two-dimensional surfaces of a shape. Just like ordinary area, the units are the squares of the units of length (that is, if a shape's sides are measured in meters, then the shape's area is measured in square meters).

A cube has six identical faces (flat surfaces), so to find a cube's surface area, find the area of one of those faces and multiply by 6. Each face is in the shape of a square, so finding the one face's area is as simple as multiplying the side length times itself.

Example, find the surface area of a cube with side length 5m.

First, we find the area of 1 face: 5*5 = 25m2. Then we multiply by the 6 identical faces: 25*6 = 150m2
